Veber Gulinelli
Gulinelli Veber, a prolific author of over 17 literary works focused mainly on the history of San Felice, a village in the northern countryside of the Modena province, presents us with this book that is not only a journey through the birth and evolution of the Italian paying-cards game, but also with new discoveries that illuminate in detail the history of playing cards in the fifteenth century.
Through months of investigation at the Este University Library in Modena and the Este State old Archive in Modena to decipher documents related to the fees and payments from the Este family to cards and tarots painters, the author has identified 28 documents, some of which never seen before. Remarkable, among others, the list of painters and master in miniatures who worked at the Este Court in Ferrara from 1430 to 1443.
The historic route explored by the author ranges from the XIV to the millennium, with contributions of game rules (including an extensive chapter about the tarots), the ancient names of the games and cards printers of different ages.
Remarkable are the iconographic support with color photos and black and white decks of cards and old documents.
